The C-Word: Part 25 – Prep and Performance

Well friends, it’s just 2 weeks until Opening Night for The C-Word at the Vancouver Fringe Fest! EEEP! Since my husband and I will be out of town all next week to perform as our Canadian Acoustic Duo KD twice daily at the Armstrong IPE (Interior Provincial Fair and Rodeo) and our Johnny Cash / June Carter tribute Johnny & June in Salmon Arm, BC (do Salmon have arms? lol) my only chance to get the show in front of a few folks was last Friday. So, I did a little low-tech rehearsal at my friend Jen Bishop’s tap dance studio and invited a few close friends.

Yikes! My low tech rehearsal under fluorescent lights!

I don’t know what was more jarring – doing the show under fluorescent lights (lol!) or being able to feel the energy of a small audience, but I relaxed halfway through and got through it with only a few little hiccups. I had a great response to the work from those present, and now feel pretty good about where I’ll be in two weeks!

Huge thanks to my friends for being there as I tackled this beast in public for the first time. I plan to keep running the lines and songs in the evenings while we’re away after we’re done performing, getting them more and more integrated into my body, and finessing some of the staging and choreography as well. Whew! It takes a lot of energy and focus to hold the stage for a whole hour, but I think I’m up to the task!

Tickets are on sale for The C-Word at

Hope you can make it to a live OR livestreamed performance of my show. This past year and a half have been a real rollercoaster. I hope I’ve captured the essence of my experience into this crazy cabaret!

I’ve been busier this summer with performing jobs than I have in years – even before Covid! I’m so thankful for all the work keeping my mind and body actively moving into the future so I don’t have time to stagnate or go down dark pathways of thought. Keep it up, universe!

This fall you can also expect to see me doing a bit of burlesque AND singing at these shows:

Burlesque in the ‘burbs at the lovely East Delta Hall!
